Description:

Location:  Blacksburg, VA

Description:
The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech has two positions available immediately at their Blacksburg, VA campus.
The Small Animal Surgery Ward Technician is responsible for scheduling and managing the surgery ward area. This position provides technical support to clinical faculty and senior veterinary students in the Anesthesia/ICU/Surgery ward sections of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Performs critical care nursing procedures in the Intensive Care Unit as directed by clinical faculty and instructs senior veterinary students in technical and manipulative skills relating to ICU/Critical care during the regular day shift. Provides primary patient care in anesthesiology during the day and provides surgery on-call after hours.   Successful candidate must have a working knowledge of basic nursing skills and working knowledge of basic anesthetic equipment and monitoring. Other necessary qualifications include knowledge of CPR, ability to place intravenous catheters and to perform endotracheal intubation, ability to understand instructions, good communication and interpersonal skills, and rabies prophylaxis will be required (provided by employer). Experience in anesthesia and/or intensive care in a veterinary medical setting and experience in daily staff management is preferred.    Applicants should apply on-line at www.jobs.vt.edu and search for posting #090553. 
 
The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for providing technical support to clinical and senior veterinary students in regard to Large and Small Animal anesthesia in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This position provides primary patient care in anesthesiology during the day and/or on-call after hours, holidays, and weekend. Performs critical care nursing procedures in the Intensive Care Unit as directed by clinical faculty and instructs senior veterinary students in technical and manipulative skills related to ICU/Critical Care during regular day shift and during after hour shifts. Schedules, performs, or assists in the performance of regular and diagnostic special procedures and electrodiagnostic procedures. Successful candidate must be a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), have a working knowledge of basic nursing skills and a working knowledge of basic anesthetic equipment and monitoring. Other necessary qualifications including the ability to place intravenous catheters and to perform endotracheal intubation, ability to understand instructions, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and rabies prophylaxis will be required (provided by employer). Preferred qualifications include a knowledge of CPR, experience in anesthesia and/or intensive care in a veterinary medical setting, and experience in special procedures and electodiagnostics. Applicants should apply on-line at www.jobs.vt.edu and search for posting #090547.
